Killer Chat - Free Browser Slasher Visual Novel to Play in Your Browser
Killer Chat is a free, browser-based slasher visual novel about a phone that will not stop buzzing. Someone is messaging you, and they know things they should not. The game is built with Ren'Py and runs inside an embedded frame at the top of the page. The whole interface is a fake phone UI: saved chats, a feed, a profile, and a private channel that updates whether you have read it or not. The dread is in the typing dots that appear before you have been asked anything, and in the fact that the messages know your name, your address, and the small things you have not told anyone. It runs in any modern browser with no download, no installer, and no account required, and the playable build is loaded from the developer's mirror.
Killer Chat - The Typing Dots Start Before You Are Asked A Question (Free Browser Play)
Killer Chat is a free, browser-based slasher visual novel where someone is messaging you, and they know things they should not. Phone-screen VN, short branching routes, plays free in your browser.
What Killer Chat Feels Like
The opening of Killer Chat is a phone in a quiet room. The screen is locked. A notification arrives. The middle of the game is when the notifications start coming faster than you can clear them, and the replies are always one step ahead of what you were going to type. The late game is the private channel open in a tab, the typing dots pulsing, and the message that lands before the cursor is even in the field. The dread is in the routine of the chat UI, in the saved-chats archive, and in the fact that the killer is patient enough to wait for you to read the message before sending the next one.
Content Warnings
Killer Chat deals with an online stalker, implied surveillance, threats of violence, and a private-channel dynamic that crosses a clear boundary. It is intended for mature audiences and is not appropriate for younger players. The game does not include explicit sexual content, but the framing of the central relationship is built around a threat, not a romance.
How To Play Killer Chat
- Click the Play button at the top of the page.
- Read the chat headers slowly. The timestamps, the read receipts, and the typing dots are doing most of the work, and rushing past them removes the slow build.
- Pay attention to the saved-chats archive. The killer is in more than one channel, and the older messages explain who they were before they found you.
- If the embedded frame does not load, refresh once, allow scripts for over-dose.org, and disable aggressive content blockers for this site. The build is loaded from the developer's mirror.
The People In The Room
The cast of Killer Chat is small and the relationships between them are tighter than they look. The game does not have a separate character gallery - the people you meet are the ones who move the rooms around you.
The Stranger
The account on the other end of the chat
Profile picture is a small red crosshair. Username changes between channels. Reads your replies before you have finished typing them. Knows things they should not.
Your Phone
The only place the conversation happens
The lock screen, the saved-chats archive, the feed, and the private channel. The phone is the only character that is always on, always on camera, and always listening.
NU.LINE
The character on the late-game private channel
Goes by 'les' in the channel tags. Has a profile picture, a small apartment visible through a window in the frame, and a smirk that does not change between messages.
The Archive
The slash-thewhore_logs_v.4.4.4.mongo file
A saved-chats history that should not exist on a fresh install. The older messages explain who the stranger was before they found you.
Killer Chat - Real Screenshots
Below are real screenshots from the playable build of Killer Chat, captured directly from the developer's mirror. They are the phone UI, the chat threads, and the private channel you cannot close, not stock art.

Why Killer Chat Sticks With You
Slasher In A Phone UI
Killer Chat is a slasher visual novel staged entirely inside a fake phone interface. The dread is in the typing dots, the read receipts, and the saved-chats archive.
Short Branching Routes
The game is not long. The routes are tight, the choices are fast, and the differences between branches are sharper than in a typical visual novel.
Stalker, Not Ghost
There is no supernatural threat. The threat is a person on the other end of the chat, and the chat is the only place you can hear them.
Clean Indie Art
The phone UI is rendered in a tight cyberpunk palette of purple, pink, and red, with clean pixel-style icons and a hand-painted title.
Plays Free In Your Browser
No download, no installer, no account, no itch.io login. The Ren'Py web build loads inside an embedded frame at the top of the page.
Mature Themes, No Shock Value
Online stalking, implied surveillance, and threats. The game uses the chat interface to build dread, not jump scares.
Tips Before You Start
- Read the timestamps. The first message arrives at a time that does not match when you were supposed to be online.
- Pay attention to the read receipts. The killer is reading your replies before you have finished typing them.
- Do not skip the saved-chats archive. The earlier channels explain how the private channel was set up.
- If the embedded frame is blocked by your browser or a content blocker, refresh once and allow scripts for over-dose.org. The build loads from the developer's mirror.
- Take a break between routes. The chat UI is built to feel routine on purpose, and a minute away from the screen resets that.
Player Reviews
"The typing dots are the whole game. I sat with the cursor in the field for a full minute before I typed anything, and the dots were already pulsing. Plays free in the browser, no install, no signup. The cyberpunk phone UI is the tightest I have seen on this site."
"Short routes, sharp differences. I have done three runs and the late-game private channel is different every time. The archive screen is the one I keep thinking about - the older messages explain everything the new ones do not. Free in the browser, no fuss."
"About an hour on a first run if you read the chat headers slowly, which you should. Four stars only because the late-game private channel is easy to miss on a first read, but the second run is sharper. Plays straight in the browser, no install."
"The stranger is one of the better stalker antagonists I have seen in a visual novel this year. The chat UI is doing real work, and the read receipts are the line that broke me. Hand-painted title art is the cherry on top."
"I came in expecting jump scares and left thinking about how the chat UI made a phone feel unsafe. The slash-thewhore_logs file is the kind of detail I would not have noticed on a first run. Highly recommend a dark room and headphones."
